Feelings of Being an English Library Guide

It was an honor for me to be the English library guide for foreign guests. Through this event, I have gained a more comprehensive understanding of the school library and also improved my English speaking skills.

First of all, as a guide, I needed to understand the layout and structure of the library, so as to better make the foreign guests understand the distribution of the library and have a more systematic understanding of the library. At the same time, I also needed to master certain interpretation skills, such as vivid and interesting interpretation methods, attractive story telling, the use of a variety of audio-visual effects to create atmosphere and so on. In this way, I can better attract the attention of foreign guests, let them immerse themselves in the world of knowledge.

Secondly, as a guide, I needed to pay attention to the acceptance and understanding of the foreign guests. The foreign guests came from the United Kingdom, which is a European country different from China, and there are also significant cultural differences from China. The biggest challenge of this activity was that I needed to explain in English. During preparation, I often thought about whether such expressions were accurate, whether the foreign guests could clearly understand what I was saying, and what kind of English expression would be more native. These thinking prepossess also made me expand my vocabulary and understand some synonymous replacement of phrases. During the explanation, the foreign guests from the United Kingdom were very patient in listening to my explanation, and I also interacted with them. I was very happy to have this opportunity to chat with foreign friends, which improved my English listening and speaking abilities.

Finally, as a docent, I needed to maintain a warm and professional attitude. The library is a place full of knowledge and wisdom. I needed to have certain academic knowledge and professional background, and be responsible for myself and foreign guests and friends, and make unremitting efforts to improve my level and ability. At the same time, I also needed to keep a warm heart and use my enthusiasm to impress the foreign guests, let them roam freely in the ocean of knowledge, feel the friendship from the Chinese people, the welcome from the students of GCASTand spend a pleasant and meaningful time in the library.

Participating in the English guiding activity at the library was an extremely enjoyable and fulfilling experience. I thoroughly appreciated the allure of the library while concurrently engaging in conversations with foreigners, which notably enhanced my oral English proficiency. I eagerly look forward to joining in similar activities in the future.
